Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Capt. Van Hubbard
October 17, 2007
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

great catching now!

Web report for Oct. 17th. Captain Van Hubbard

Current fishing is just as hot as the weather.

We are catching Spanish and king mackerel; as many as we want. Plus tarpon, sharks, and little tunny until our arms hurt. Everything depends upon getting out in the near shore Gulf waters and the forecast is good for at least a week right now. Snook, reds and trout are ok they bite some days and seam to be confused by hot weather others. All our fishing will just continue to improve for several more weeks; as long as the winds cooperate.

Local Gulf water is crystal clear and full of life right now. The bait fish minnows are abundant and schooling fish have locked in to fatten up for winter. We are fishing live minnows on light spin and conventional gear. I rig with a short wire leader and let em run. The drags are screaming most of the time. We actually hurt from reeling in fish these last two days. It’s a full blown mack attack. The tarpon and sharks are also adding even more excitement when they move in and take over. Tarpon are all sizes from 50 – 150 pounds. Sharks vary also from small to one that stole a big king today. The Spanish are thick and take over frequently. Get action.

We did get a few snook last week including one big 34 inches. Some smaller fish but would like more slot fish. The slot is small and we are catching fish. Reds are usually better some days are very good. Trout have been spotty but some nice ones in the Harbor.

Right now everything is hot and action is dependant on the winds and temperatures. As wind shift north and cool us off it will hurt outside fishing but help inside for snook, etc… About Thanksgiving this will cool off and start to slow our catching down. Let’s Go Fishin’ now! Captain Van Hubbard
