Cape Coral - Saltwater Fishing Report

Pine Island Pie Plate Pompano have been the order of business as of late. Productive areas are along sandbars and grass flat edges just off the main channels. 5 feet is the magic depth number. Best rig is a Popping Cork, 4 foot, 30 lb mono leader with a 1/4 oz, Chartreuse boxing head jig on the end baited with a medium live shrimp. Just hook the shrimp down thru the back of the tail then back towards the head, up and out the back. This makes an absolutely deadly Live Bait Lure. Just throw it out and let it ride in the tide. No need to injure your elbow with repeated Pomp Jig casting. This rig will out fish artificials 10:1. These Pompanos range from 1 to 4 pounds and they are fun to catch. This is the rig I teach in my Freedom Boat Club and other group fishing seminars. Having trouble finding the fish? Take one of my teaching charters and find the how where and whys the fish are where they are. Go from 10 fish a day to over 50. You Don't Have to be a Pro to have fun!
