Carrabelle - Saltwater Fishing Report

As I write this, tropical storm Hanna is blowing a gale. She is pushing water over my dock in the Apalachicola Bay and spewing horizontal rain at a steady 25 knots. Offshore, seas right now are 10 feet, not a hospitable place for humans. The marine world will be back to status quo in a day or so and many areas will benefit from 2 or 3 inches of rain.
This week, before Hanna began spinning her counter clockwise fury, offshore fishing was above average. One of my trips produced gag and red grouper, snappers and amberjacks. Large pinfish continue to be the bait of choice. You can catch all you want at the mouth of the Apalachicola River on squid tentacles carefully threaded onto #8 wire hooks. With water temperature in the mid eighties, start your search for fish in 75 feet and go South into deeper water. This week one local Captain showed up at the dock with a huge box of groupers he caught in 135 feet. Electrics are the only way to go in deep water.
All week I have been thinking about what to write about 9/11. After all that has been written and spoken this week, I decided less is better. Once the tears are gone, we will never forget the brave and innocent that perished so senselessly. The amazing strength of the surviving spouses and children will stand as a living testament to all that would seek to harm our courageous people. God bless Americans!!!
Until next tide, tight lines and solid hookups,
