Triple tail-shark-trout-snapper-mackerel-cobia day

Capt. Darel Carter
May 23, 2018
Charlotte Harbor - Saltwater Fishing Report

5-19-18
Made plains on Friday to target Triple tail and tarpon on Saturday. I invited long time friend Joe and his nephew Anthony to go. Anthony has never fished for triple tail before. I told Joe that we needed to bet our record of having a triple tail in the boat before 6:30 am.
We launched the boat and had the first and second keeper triple tail hooked up at 6:28 am. Yes it was a double hook up. While I was fighting 13 pounder around the boat, Joe hooked up to another keeper. They were about 25" and 15" long. We landed four more at the same spot with four keepers total. We moved to another spot and had no hits at all.

On the third spot, Anthony hooked up to big Louie. It made a long run and we thought it mite be a Cobia. And no it was a fat slob of a Triple tail.

We moved on to a spot to try for trout, tarpon of cobia. This was a slow moving tide area in 10' of water. We used jigs to catch silver trout and Spanish mackerel. As we were jigging the sharks were eating the jigs also.
I made a two mile run to an area that I have been catching thread fins for about 6 weeks. I made one blind cast and caught about 100 threadies.
We moved around from spot to spot and caught some nice trout and snapper. At every spot we caught Spanish mackerel. I caught a small Cobia at a channel marker. A nasty storm moved in and we called it a day.
