Fishing Is Finally Picking Up in Chokoloskee/Everglades N.P.

Capt. Bert Barkus
March 22, 2010
Chokoloskee - Saltwater Fishing Report

We finally have somewhat of stability in the weather as far as the cold goes.
But the shore breese pick up early.
We started this week with NW winds, now into mid
week, their SW.
If the wind would just stop for a few days, the fishing should be excellent on the gulf side.
Jason,of Everglades Area Tours had a beautiful snook this week that went 40",caught on a jig.
If you get the weather and tides right, the gulf side will produce reds, trout, and even a snook or two.
In the back country,Their snook to be had, but you had better be ready for a lond day for just a few snook.
Tarpon are also starting to show now that the air temp. has warmed up.
But you still need to know where to find them,Just keep poling around their usual areas, and you just luck out and find a few.
Trout are still the fish to target for a fun day of fishing.
Bruce Hitchcock caught a permit in a very out of the way area this week on a jig along with many trout.
MY week has been somewhat spotty, trout here and their,a few reds,1 shot at a tarpon, then back to trout fishing.
Get out and have fun with the trout, once located, throw a popping bug at them,up they come and,you got it,(Fish ON).
