Chokoloskee - Saltwater Fishing Report

In spite of the cold water and cool temperatures, fishing was pretty good this week. On Wednesday I fished with Charlie Atwood, his sons Bret and Paul and their friend Scott. Our morning started off very slow. With a falling tide, I decided to fish inshore looking for trout and redfish. The water temperature was in the low sixties and the fish seem to have lock jaw. After a couple of hours with no success, I suggested we go offshore to a spot I thought might hold some sheepshead. Upon arrival, we found two other boats anchored on the spot. Once anchored, we dropped live shrimp down to the bottom and started getting bites. We stayed there until the tide changed catching sheepshead, black drum and trout. Once the tide changed the bite stopped, so we proceeded inshore to a shoreline I thought might hold trout. The fish were there. We were able to stay with the school for about two hours and catch our limit of really nice fish.
Saturday I fished a half day with John and Kathy Armstrong. Our day started with a GREAT trout bite. We fished a long shoreline and were able to stay on the fish for a few hours catching a fish on almost every cast. Since they had no way of taking fish home, we kept four for their dinner and released the rest.
Chokoloskee Fishing Forecast:

With the water temperatures starting to get back to normal, the seatrout bite bite should stay hot. As water temps start rising, we should also start to see redfish and black drum in good numbers.
Target Species:

Seatrout, Redfish and Drum
