Chokoloskee - Saltwater Fishing Report

Summer is almost here and the water temp. is in the upper 70s which is perfect for the snook bite.
We've been doing well on the gulfside (as long as theirs no wind)and also in the backcountry.
Those large snook are becoming somewhat easier to take an artificial now that the weather is now starting to stablize, and fewer fronts are now not moving to far south.
The Tarpon are still thick here. If the weather stays calm those big guys will lay up.
I fun fished for a couple hours the other day and
had a great time.Pleanty of trout, ladyfish and caught 4 flounders on a 3/8 rootbeer jig.
Offshore I hear their Permit, and cobia to be caught, but remember to keep aware of any thunderstorms that just might come up.Always keep track of this so you won't get caught offshore in a thunderstorm, that can be a handfull here in chokoloskee since the shelf is such a slow drop off.
Overall the fishing is pretty good, but you still have to have your artificials covering the area your fishing, and don't take you eyes off of it because the larger snook will hit at the tip top,so stay alert and watch that plug all the way back to the boat.
Tight lines,
Capt.Bert Barkus
