Chokoloskee - Saltwater Fishing Report

This is the first week of snook season and it's been pretty quiet here in Chokoloskee.
I expected hundreds of boats on the water, but after fishing this week with Gil Drake,we didn't see that many.
We had a great 2 day of snook fishing.
On day 1 we brought to the boat 4 snook in the upper slot, and many in the 18" to 24" inch size.
We both jumped small tarpon in the 10 to 20 pound range.
I Had 1 jump into the boat, but Gil had it under control when it landed on the casting deck, he slid it back into the water, going barbless is always the way to go for us.
We didn't hit the smaller snook hard,we were just searching and letting it happen, when we got into the smaller guys we pulled off of them, and save them for another day.
On day 2 we went to the gulf side, and just had fun with the mackeral, and had them for dinner that night.
The weather has been nice for site fishing out front, but you have to be aware of the Thunder storms,1 put us back at the dock by noon.
All in all,the fishing has been some what spotty, and covering area was the only way for a sucessful day on the water.
So be patient, cover water fast, either poling or with your trolling motor, and let it happen.
Tight Lines,
Capt. Bert Barkus
