Spring Tarpon are Jumping

Capt. Bert Barkus
April 20, 2010
Chokoloskee - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well,it's nice to finally have some stability in the weather because of the Tarpon in our area.
It's necessary to have full sun with little wind to really have a great chance to jump those 100 plus pounders.
Charlie and David had probably 50 shots a week ago. They snubed off a couple, and jumped only 2 fish.
David forgot too let go of the fly line and burned his finger pretty bad on the last fish.
He striped sriked the fish and held on to the line too long, the fish came up right next to me on the platform, thank god it didn't land in the boat.
Yes,the big tarpon are here to stay threw out the spring and summer.
The fishing for reds and trout are also on the up swing, and you shouldn't have a problem getting your limit.
The snook strike is pretty good also if you find them in a feeding mood on the gulf side.
I have found a few schools in the backcountry also, but havn't caught anything larger then 7-8 pounds.
So Get Out and Give it a Try!
Tight LInes,
Capt.Bert Barkus
