This past week has seen some relatively warm weather, which has brought the water temp back up to "fishy" levels. Me and the other captains of the Homosassa Guides Association have had no trouble in finding many decent to over sized trout on our recent trips. The trout are ready to eat and they have not been too picky as of late. Capt. William toney swears by the DOA Glow jerk baits and Captain Clay has been doing very well on nose hooked DOA Jerk baits of all colors. I have been using a mixture of DOA shrimp and gulp shrimp, mostly natural colors and new penny. This time of year is known for it's amazing inshore fishing, this is when it all "gets real," the reds are starting to school up on certain flats and creeks, and like I said, the trout are on fire…. I have also had some success on the inshore rocks, catching large Spanish Macks, Sea Bass, and some Sheepies. You can't keep grouper right now but, from what I hear, they are thick out in 30-50 feet of water, the sea bass are thick on some rock piles in that depth range too, so at-least you can bring something back in the cooler to make the run worth it. April is fast approaching and we are ready for some Red Grouper trips, can't wait to get back out into the blue water and tangle with some monsters! The next week will be great for fishing, as long as we don't have another huge front come through and mess things up….. Good luck and Tight Lines!!
