Cool weather hot fishing
Black drum have been schooled up on the shallow flats. We have been catching most on shrimp but I had one eat my jerk bait the other day. Some big blacks are available for the next few months as well a whole blue crab is best used to take them. Redfish have been schooled up thick and tailing on the shallow flats looking for shrimp before they move out. We have been catching many nice ones on most days. Toss a Gulp shrimp at them and they will almost always eat them.

Along with them will be the big trout up on the shallow flats. These big trout are generally just outside the school waiting for a flushed bait so they can pounce on it. In the photo you can Shay Bagley's nine pound trout that was with such a school.

The smaller trout will be in a little deeper water seeking warmth. You can use live bait for them, but using a jerk bait is much more fun. I like the Gulp sinking minnow and jerk shad. They are my go to bait when I need to catch a big one. For the smaller fish I downsize and use a small jerkbait and bounce it off the bottom. I use a 1/8th or ¼ oz. jig head. Doesn't mean your are not guna catch a big one this way, just the smaller fish have a chance.
