Back From the "Pass

Capt. Larry Pentel
August 8, 2012
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

Got back to Seagrove from a little over 2 weeks at Indian Pass. I'm pleased to report that there are plenty of Tarpon over there. There was also quite a bit of rain ( and lightning ) on most of the days I had trips. Kinda cuts into the Tarpon catching when you have to run from the fish to stay safe ! The tripletails were a little thin when I first got there but made a good show the last few days I was there. Seems that there is not much pressure on the Tarpons this year but LOTS of people chasing Tripletails. We saw several big fish that could give you the serial number of every DOA poppin' cork style made.....

I got to go look for Scallops twice while there and they are as thin this year as they were plentiful last year. It seems that what is out there are leftovers from last year-- all the ones we found were big with meats the size of your thumb- we just didn't find 'em ganged up in any one area. Still great fun and we got enough for a couple batches of ceviche' and a couple scallop dinners as well.

The Tarpons didn't show this day so we "had" to look for Tripletails !

That's about 160# Fish that we got to the boat an hour later....

This Gal was very proud of her first Tripletail.. She was all set to come back with some buddies and give 'em what for again !

Back to fishing off Grayton in the morning. I spent the day swapping tackle around and am ready to go at here again for a couple weeks. My oldest daughter has me booked on her birthday to scallop and chase Tripletails so I get to make one more trip to the Pass at the end of the month.

I'll put up some Grayton pics in a week or so...

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
