Bouncy Seas & Full Boxes

Capt. Larry Pentel
June 10, 2014
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

There have been as many days of breezy and bouncy as slick and flat the past week or so. We have had a limit of Red Snappers every trip along with some fine bonus fish but I have had to work hard to get a box of "grade or better" snappers on a couple of the calmer days with lots of 16" to 18" fish biting. Hard to complain when you are steady getting bites though and it makes that 10# Snapper even more exciting after just releasing a bunch of 3 pounders ! The King bite has been exceptional. It sure is nice to be confindent you can get a few Macks to chew after limiting out on Snappers on a short trip. Even better is the Kings have been up in close so we haven't had to be far from the truck on the breezy days if somebody decides they need to go in an hour early on a half day ( like this morning). Being able to catch quality fish 10 minutes from the trailer is always a treat !

Anyone familar with my ramblings knows I am always saying how much better gals are than guys at Snapper fishing the first few trips out. I have had several trips lately that just kept proving how "smooth is what catches fish" with gals of all ages showing up the guys.

Another great catch on a shortened trip. Yep, the gal had one of the biggest fish !

The weatherman says it's going to rain tomorrow and be a bit of surf. I'll still get up at 4 and be on the beach at daylight to see if we can go. I hate telling folks it's too rough...but I still don't want to beat anybody up, especially if they are on vacation!

The bite should stay hot for the forseeable future. There is lots of bait inshore and lots of finny critters vying for thier share. Get out there and give 'em some with a hook in it. Lots of fish, lots of spots.

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
