Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's been a while since I typed up a fishing report but that doesn't mean nothing has been happening. The camera took a hit so I'm afraid I don't have any pictures to post this time around. They would look similar to all the others over the years, smiling folks holding up a catch---
I spent about 9 days over at Indian Pass doing my best to find a spot out of the wind to let my folks fish. We got 6 days in and while we never crushed 'em my anglers caught fish everyday and we had some pretty exciting bites at times. The weather the past 2 weeks has been so blustery that even inshore fishing has been problematic most days. We would find a good trout bite one day and the next day it would be so rough and muddy in that part of the Bay that fishing there wasn't an option. I took my anglers up the intercoastal one day when it blew 30 knots all day. Nice to have a place where it's always calm no matter what the wind. My 2 guys landed 8 Redfish, a couple trout ( one at 24 inches)a few white trout and croakers and even a Largemouth Bass. Not a box full by any means but they though it was great to get a catch in with 3 foot waves in the Bay...and still stay dry and comfortable.
Back here in Grayton/Seagrove I have had to cancel trips the past several days due to the conditions in the Gulf. No point in taking folks out just to beat 'em up. The weatherman has it calming down starting tomorrow and a forecast of darn near gorgeous for the next week. I know it's March and the wind is supposed to blow but I think we are due some calm days !
Several Cobia seen but I have not heard a confirmed report of one caught yet. Once again, the weather is playing a major role there. The Spanish are here, have been for a couple weeks now. My son caught a dozen keepers in Destin Harbor one evening and I heard of a couple limit catches in St. Joe Bay while I was at Indian Pass. Quite a few good Pompano catches in the Surf along with lots of Redfish, a few Drum and Sheepshead as well. The Sheepshead are doing their thing under all the big bridges. Try to catch the slack tide if you are fishing near one of the Passes and it'll make things easier to fill the box with a bunch of "convicts"
I have the boat full of gas, the tackle rigged and bait on ice. As soon as the wind and surf allow ( hopefully tomorrow !) I'll be back in the Gulf and post an update w/ fish pictures.
