Cobia, Mackerel,Triggers & Tourism

Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

Lots happening at the Beach in South Walton this week. With all of Georgia on Spring Break there are a bunch of Folks in town. The King Mackerel have also decided to show up and vacation, a very nice addition to the angling options.

The weather has been kind of hit and miss the past 10 days or so, from blowy and chilly to warm and perfect and now, the past 2 days have us socked in with heavy fog. I ran a cobia trip yesterday and as thick as the fog was we were lucky to be able to see the bow of the boat, let alone a fish. We caught some Spanish for dinner and I took the folks by a close in spot to catch and release some Red Snappers but the cobia didn't show for us.

I ran a 4 hour bottom trip a couple days ago and we found a fish on the ride out that was more than willing to cooperate. Always nice to have a 30# cobia in the boat a half hour after getting on board ! We went on to get a pretty good mess of Triggers, and Vermillions as well.

Bonus Fish 15 minutes into the trip !

I ran 4 young men out on a short afternoon trip and they did great with the Triggers and Snappers too.

First time out for a couple of 'em- They were amazed at the size of the Red Snappers we threw back.

These 3 gentlemen had a good box of bottom fish and wanted to come in and look around the beach for the last hour on a half day. We didn't see a cobia but they caught 8 nice mackerel to add to the box.

A good mix of species for a few fish fry's

I saw a King sky rocket while bottom fishing 3 days ago. Caught one on the fly pole 2 days ago and saw two (big ones) on the bar while looking for cobia yesterday. Glad to see another target species show up for the year. I imagine that in the next couple days there will be a bunch of the big silver streaks around to catch. Always fun to keep a cigar minnow rigged to throw at a King while looking for cobia. Not often you get the chance to sight fish for two different species at the same time.

There are some cobia around but the conditions just haven't been right yet for the run to really bust loose. I'm hoping this fog will burn off a little earlier today and we can go get 'em !

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
