Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

As the title says, the big news is the first cobia of the season ( year ) was brought in to Grayton Beach today. Capt Tyler Hammond on the "Too Dead Fish" set the bar high with a 67# fish caught by his charter this morning. I don't know who was more excited, the angler or the captain !

Big Smiles for a Big Fish

The weather has finally turned to perfect and I have got to run several trips the past few days. While we still have to release all Groupers and Red Snappers ( Red Grouper re-open April 1). that doesn't mean you can't have fun catching and releasing 'em.

" We got more than enough for dinner capt'- can you put me on a Grouper ?"

Another first time Grouper catcher- I think he'll be back.

Even spending time doing the catch and release thing we have been filling up the board with dinner fish no problem.

A fine one for dinner and another just for the pull.

These folks ended up giving away most of what we kept.

Even the shorter afternoon trips have had the board full.

These Gals had twice this many still in the cooler.

The fishing should just get better and better as the water warms. There were Spanish in the Surf yesterday and today and the bait should start showing up any day. The cobia run will kick in in earnest within the next week and the Kings won't be far behind. The jacks are still here but have been hit pretty hard the past 2 weeks and are not an "easy" catch like they were a month ago. Time to sharpen up those cobia hooks !

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
