Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

We are beginning to venture out from our deep water holes where we have been catching black drum, sheepshead, and big redfish and are starting to target slot reds and big speckled trout on the shallow water grass beds in Destin. We have been seeing the trout and reds on the flats for a couple weeks now but with the cold temps they have not gone after our baits too aggressively. With the rising temps that has been changing and we are now starting to see them feed on baitfish and occasionally tail while rooting for shrimp and crabs in the grass. We got a couple to bite last week for the first ECRC tournament of the year and ended up with a combined weight of 10.1 lbs, taking first for the tournament.

Today we started out in deeper water but as the day progressed and the temps got up in the mid 50s (water temps), which is a lot hotter than the upper 40s of two weeks ago, we moved on to the flats.

This 30" red took our shrimp in about 30 feet of water.

We fooled this upperslot red with an artificial swimbait worked quickly over the grass beds.
Destin Fishing Forecast:

As the temps rise, the flats fishing is only going to get better.
