Falling For the Big Ones

Capt. Larry Pentel

Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well I guess this past cold front makes it officially Fall. That and the fact my bookings have pretty much played out and tomorrow starts November! I have about half a dozen trips on the books for this month so far- I hate to admit it but for the first time I am actually looking forward to some off time! Do some fishing myself, catch up on my oyster eating, sunset watching and playing like a Floridian at the beach again !

I ran some great trips the past couple weeks. One of my regulars and good friend booked me for 2 days in a row for 6 hour "Big Fish" trips. We had a blast and one of his buddies got a real braggin' rights Red Grouper---

I guess it was time for locals and regulars this past couple weeks. These folks live in Panama City but come over to Grayton to fish. They had caught a great limit of Black Grouper w/ me on the opening day of the season and came back just to "cap off the freezer" for the winter.

One of 'em told me he couldn't catch another fish !

This gentleman fishes with me several times a year with his whole family. He ended up down here for couple days by himself and said he just wanted to catch fish- not keep anything.

He caught Snappers till he he was tired of winding--

Then we went Trolling and he was nice enough to catch me and several other locals a bunch of (awfully good) dinners! A Spanish that big tastes like fried butter !

I take all kind of folks fishing. Summer tourists, locals, doctors, lawyers, famous folks, and the Dread Clampitt line - "Sheet-rockers & Floozies", even a few democrats !-- Okay, not many but a (very) few of 'em do fish !

Definitely not a democrat! This (famous) Republican and his family not only had a big time but that 125# spinner shark at the end made 2 spectacular jumps that capped off an already great catch .

The weather will start playing a lot bigger roll in when it's a good day to go fishing as we start heading into winter. Plenty of fish to catch out there- if you see a pretty day - get out there and make some good use of it !

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
