Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report
Just got back from 8 days over at Indian Pass chasing Trouts and Reds. I had 6 days of charters, 5 of 'em with a Son & Father team that try to come for a week every Fall to sightfish Reds in the AM and Trout in the PM. We started out Mon. AM with good conditions that deteriorated quick- 45 minutes into the trip the sun got covered up with clouds and never really came back out (other than at sunset !) all week. These guys are happy to catch trout so we did that every afternoon with some really great catches-- landing well over 100 fish a couple afternoons and some bigger fish the other days. The trout were mixed, both specks and whites with the majority being specks.
What's better than a great cigar and you and your dad both having a trout on ?
While we didn't get to see the usual couple hundred Reds a sunny day will show we did find one to catch..
Okay...Maybe a great cigar and a 4 ft long Redfish (on 10# test) can compete.
When my anglers showed up Sunday evening one of the first things Dad asked was " can we pick up oysters and get you to bake a bunch" ? With no sun in the AM the second day his son and I picked up 2 coolers full and they ate raw and grilled ones all week. I obliged dads request by shucking 2 trays full, adding cheeses and goodies and doing baked oysters on the deck one evening as well.

Here's 3 limits of specks after oystering.. We kept about 20 whites that afternoon as well.

My last trip over there was another family trip with folks that have fished with me at Grayton several times. Dad wanted the kids to sightfish Reds and we had good sun and plenty of shots at fish. The technical aspect and challenge of sightfishing proved a little different than the guarantee of a box full bottom fishing for the kids though. Everyone had fun and dad caught a couple of Reds even giving the family the most ladder time. Family trips can be the best time , even for the guide!
Fishing with your daughter is not just fun but makes for great memories !
I'm back out in the Gulf off Grayton for a week starting tomorrow. I'm hoping that the Flounders have ganged up in close along with some Triggers and the Jacks are right where I left 'em. So many species..... so little time in the day...
