Limits and a Slam

Capt. Blake Nelson
August 19, 2009
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

The post-storm fishing was on fire today. We had trouble finding the greenies that we usually use for bait so we netted some finger mullet and hit the flats. The fish were cooperating from the get go and we landed some lunker trout and a little 13 1/2" flattie (flounder). The next spot we went to I set up a topwater for one of the guys and he located some redfish for us on one of the first few casts. We netted his, a nice 26" and then got two mullets in the water and quickly followed suit with a 25" and a 24" red.

We also got a nice 5 lb. jack cravelle on topwater. The bite turned cold for a little while but we were able to finish the trip on some deeper flats catching nonstop trout for a good hour, most of them on topwater. Ended the trip with our limit of trout (including our 3 over 20") and our limit of reds for the trip.

We also had one angler on board get his first ever inshore slam, all three in the slot limit.
