Perfect Weather, Matching Fishin'

Capt. Larry Pentel
August 19, 2011
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

I don't know why it is but for as long as I can remember 'bout the time most of the tourists have to go back home the weather just gets perfect. The humidity has dropped, the temp was (almost) cool a couple mornings before sunrise and the afternoon sea breeze hasn't been more than 5 knots. A great time to be at the beach !

A Board Full of Big 'Un's

The king bite stayed hot for a couple days after my last report but, as usual, they slowed WAY down right after the full moon. They have started back up again and we limited out this morning with no trouble in an hour and a half.

So- What to do if the Kings won't bite this time of year ? Why go Amberjack fishing of course. The AJ's have been more than willing to take a turn up to tug on anglers.

These Folks Even Got a Bonus Cobia with the Jacks !

Now that the Kings have started back we are targeting them again but I have managed to slide a little time in on a jack spot or two on the 4 hrs trips--

Another 2 hr with some of the locals. Yep- the kids each got 2 and showed the grown folks up !

As Promised, here is a link to a great Tarpon video shot at Indian Pass a couple weeks ago. It is way beyond me to create such a movie but Edmond, head boat launcher and Grayton resident computer genius put it together in an evening.

I am taking a (well deserved) week "off" this next week. It's my oldest daughters annual birthday/fishing/scalloping extravaganza and I am designated boat driver. Not only do I get to spend some quality time with a great kid, I can sleep till 7 in the morning for a week !!!

Get out there and catch a few for me while I'm swimmin'--

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
