RED SNAPPER !

Capt. Larry Pentel
June 5, 2013
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

At last, our long awaited Red Snapper season opened June 1st.. and it was too rough to go fishing !! We all made it out on a beautiful June 2nd though and got a couple days of "easy" fishing in before the current big surf from TS Andrea shut us down again mid day yesterday the 4th..... Looks like we will all be on the hill till at least Friday afternoon, maybe Saturday AM before it is calm enough to be "fun" to go fishing again. Oh well.... can't fight mother nature (or the feds) and win in fishing !

The big Kings were here until the last blow and seemed to have moved on, leaving a few scattered "regulars" around. The current big surf and tide will reshuffle the deck yet again and we should have a brand new batch of fish to chase as soon as it calms down. Always exciting to go out after a blow and see what critters have moved in.....some of the very best fishing is the week or so after a big storm...

Here are some pics from the past week

These 2 (now teenagers) have been fishing with me for years.....and have it down !!! They can embarrass all the guys on the boat by steady catching fish.

These 2 guys made me come in early on what was supposed to be a 4 hr....they said they had caught all they needed and thier arms were tired !

Fishing should stay fairly easy for the foreseeable future as long as the weather cooperates..... I imagine this storm will push a few Red Grouper in to the beach to give us yet another target species for June and July !!!

Speaking of target species... I am going to be at Indian Pass for over a month this year to chase TARPONS... one of the most exciting target species around. As always, there is a free place to stay at the fish camp the night prior to fishing if you want to book a trip and come on over.. I still have some dates open in August to chase Silver Kings and Tripletails.... give me a call.

Full boxes and great dinners !

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
