Same Fish, Different Season

Capt. Larry Pentel
September 6, 2010
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

Yesterday morning it was almost cool at daylight ! The days are getting shorter and it won't be long before all the big Fall fish runs start- I saw the first schools of mullet in the surf today!

Right after my last report I got to take a family scallopin' over at St Joe Bay and then spend a couple days doing it myself. The weather was overcast which kinda hurts the visibility but there were plenty of scallops. They must have had a good time as they booked an afternoon fishing trip for this past weekend as well--. I got to go up in the Lagoon before snorkeling one morning and am happy to report that it is full of Redfish, though there is one less than before I checked !

Back to Grayton for the last "busy " week of the season with the Labor Day holiday and all. I have got to run a bunch and the fish have been cooperating nicely. On the old line of "you never know what is going to bite next in the Gulf"- I had a fellow catch a fine Black Fin Tuna the other day.-- On slip lead rig !

A Great Catch with a Tuna Bonus !

The Kings are still a little thin but I had a crew that wanted to shoot for big fish so we put the time in and trolled for most a half day trip and it payed off with a pair of fine smoker Kings.

Quality if not Quantity !

My scallop trip folks wanted to shoot for jacks on an afternoon trip so we ran offshore- caught 'em up and ran right back in.

A Great 2 Hours !

One of my regulars brought his wife down to Grayton for an anniversary trip and actually brought her fishing (first time in 4 years). Not only did she have a blast, she showed him pretty good by out-fishing him from right out of the gate!

I think she'll make him take he more often!

Today I had folks that had never been before so I mixed it up and we bottom fished for a bunch of different species.

A Good mix with a few of almost everything !

I'm busy the rest of this week and then it will slow down till Red Snappers re-open Oct 1st. That little taste I got of fishing myself has me ready for fall, time off and lots of fishing opportunities !

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
