Super Sunday in Sowal

Capt. Larry Pentel

Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

While a lot of folks spent last Sunday getting the party ready for a super bowl game I got to take some locals out and we partied with the Amberjacks. A beautiful clear sky, calm seas and a light but cool North wind made for the perfect day to run offshore.

The fish were happy to cooperate and everyone (including the captain !) got to catch some big fish.

A big Jack can dang sure pull !

We caught over 20 Jacks, keeping our 5 fish limit and releasing the rest. Both my son and one of my regulars brought jigging tackle so they really got to play hard. I caught three on baits but then had to catch one on a jig just to prove I still could.

The Winning Team !

We looked around a little bit for Vermillions but only caught a few. My wife cooked some up whole that evening and they were fantastic, kinda made it hard to watch that other game that was on the TV-.

The weather pattern seems to be calming down some. We had a couple days in a row that were calm and while it's blowy today it looks like I am going to get to run both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. It always amazes me how there is just enough rough weather in the winter to get all the boat chores done and then- boom- it's time to start fishin' and breaking things again !

For those that are counting..... less than 6 weeks till cobia season !!!!!!!!!

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
