Trigger Time

Capt. Larry Pentel

Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

As always, the only reason I get to sit down and type out a fishin' report is the surf's up. We have had some really great Beach weather, perfect temps, clear water and calm days. Yesterday was perfect at the beach but a little too much surf to get a boat off the beach so I got all the usual boat maintenance chores done and with a rainy day today it's paperwork and fish reports. This would be the greatest job in the world if all I had to do was take folks fishin' !

I got to take a bunch of folks fishin' the past week and we did a bunch of catchin' as well. I was fortunate enough to find some (legal !) Jacks about 10 miles from the truck and got to introduce several groups of anglers to the ol' "reef donkeys".

Sometimes it takes two anglers to tame a Jack !

It's really amazing how I can beat down anglers when the bite is on.

Tired but Smilin'-- Jacks, Groupers and Triggers-it doesn't get much better!

These Folks made the most of thier Shots at the Big Bites and got a great board as well. One of these folks has been going for about 3 years and all the tactics I have been teaching about Grouper fishin' came together for him this trip.

These guys come every fall and want quantity over size for a couple days in a row. I would have needed three or four nail boards to hang all thier fish.

No finer freezer fishin' than a pile of Triggers.

And no tastier Snapper than a pile of Vermillions !

The weather was nice enough to run some short afternoon trips as well with some fine boards. These folks went for 2 hrs and and had a blast. The Gal said she had never caught fish so fast.

They probably caught 50 triggers- We have to throw most back....

Another batch of first timers, Judging from the smiles I think they will be back next year !

The current front coming thru will probably drop the water temp a few degrees over the next couple nights. While I hate for summer to end and have to wear long clothes and shoes it will probably be the start of all the Fall fish runs this weekend....

Get out there and catch 'em up !

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
