Backbay Estero Bay Report

Capt. Jon Fetter
October 6, 2011
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Now is a great time to get out and enjoy a very good variety of fishing both in the backbay's and nearshore waters of SW Florida. The redfish action is starting to heat up as the colder weather approaches. This has a habit of schooling these fish together around the flats. Topwater plugs early in the a.m. will provide mindblowing strikes from these bottom feeders. As the sun heats the water, switch over to zoom flukes or gulp jerkshads for continued action. Don't forget about free lined shrimp or shrimp under a float around the mangrove shorelines. Redfish will hang out there as well. The snook remain hungry around the floating docks and mangroves near the passes. Free lined pinfish will work very well for them on 2/0 circle hooks. The seatrout bite has started early this year around the grass flats. Shrimp under a popping cork seems to work best, but they will hit topwater and artificial's also. The nearshore action is really starting to get going with the bait balls starting to move into the area. Spanish mackerel, bonita, and even a few tarpon are starting to show up. Silver spoons will work for the mackerel and bonita, but you will need quality live bait for the tarpon.
