Conditions in Estero Bay mean a good chance for an inshore slam

Capt. Greg Stamper
April 28, 2015
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Another week of great conditions continues to keep Southwest Florida in the bite. Anglers seeking inshore fish such as redfish, snook, tarpon or trout i.e. The inshore "Grand Slam" have had every opportunity to check that one of their bucket list. Redfishing has been on fire! Fish can be found biting on moving water taking artificial lures as there preference. My anglers used jerk baits and swim baits when we slow rolled mangrove islands to catch nice slot redfish. If casting isn't your game, try throwing cut ladyfish with enough weight to keep it stationary along the same mangrove shore lines. The snook have started to make their way onto the beaches. This is a great time of the year to walk your favorite beach and throw parallel to the shore with the same artificial baits you use for redfish... then wait for that thump! My preference are swim baits like the Yum Minnows or the Stinky Fingers twitch baits in the white or bone colors. Trout are continuing to take live shrimp under a popping cork in 3-5 feet of water, however you will need to load up on medium to small shrimp and sort through all the small ones before the big gator shows up. Tarpon fishing is now in full swing, so pick a nice calm day and give it a go! Tarpon are showing up off our beaches as well as in the backcountry fairly consistent. Most fish have been caught using live crabs or threadfin herring, however cut baits soaked on the bottom will also give you a great chance.

Target Species:

redfish, snook, tarpon, trout
