Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
This past week the fishing in and around Estero bay was very good with both quality as well as quantity. The redfish bite continues to be very strong with daily catches approaching 15 fish with some upper slot fish mixed in. Shrimp on a jig head under a float around the oyster bars and mangroves on high water was the go-to method. Really work the area well before moving on to another spot. Pinfish or hand-picked shrimp worked really well for snook under the floating docks. Free-lined on 2/0 or 3/0 circle hooks works fine for catch and release action. The trout and ladyfish action over the grass flats was great. Shrimp under a popping cork will provide hours of continuous action. The passes are starting to heat up with some good catches of pompano, sharks, trout, ladyfish, and Spanish mackerel. Shrimp on jig heads or under a popping cork will work fine. Finally, the fish off the beaches are easy to find, just look for the flocks of birds feeding on the surface. Here you will find mackerel, bonita, and the occasional tarpon. Silver spoons or free-lined live bait will work best.
