Estero Bay: Redfish - Snook - Tarpon

Capt. Joe Angius
June 27, 2015
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing has remained consistent in Estero Bay. Now that the water temperatures have risen, fish have been most active early in the mornings. My bait of choice this month for redfish and snook have been pinfish. Later in the morning, when the sun comes out, cut bait has proven to be successful.

Tarpon have been all around the bay as well. If you are targeting them specifically, I would recommend netting a lot of white bait (if you can find it) and to chum generously. My client, Ed, hooked and landed his tarpon using a creek chub.

If you're not getting many bites, try lighter pound leader line. I've been using 25lb test, but wouldn't mind dropping to 20lb. A 2/0 circle hook for live bait and a 4/0 hook for cut bait will ensure a solid hook set.

Have fun fishing and good luck!
