Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
With afternoon and evening showers becoming a normal part of our weather pattern in Southwest Florida, fishing has been better than ever this summer. Fresh rainwater has been cooling down the backwaters and turning the backbay bite on. Schools of redfish can be found around oyster bars and a few select mangrove edges.
Redfish will pick up a live or cut pinfish; patience is a must when the water is too brackish. The backwater fish become lethargic and it might take them a little bit longer for them to start chewing.
Snook can be caught using the same bait, but are found around the passes and creek mouths. A lot of smaller snook are everywhere. Large females have just finished their spawn and are exhausted. It will take some time and patience looking for active female snook.
Trout are on grass flats around the passes. Look for birds diving and small bait pods. They are receptive toward artificial lures, live pinfish, and cut ladyfish.
Tarpon can be found virtually anywhere and all day long. They have been taking artificial lures and flies.
It is definitely hot out on the water, but try going a little bit earlier than normal or right before dark.
