Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Despite the flow of fresh water into the bay the fishing this past week in Estero Bay has remained pretty good. The normal clean, clear water has been replaced with dark brown almost rusty color which has required anglers to change gears and fish more on stinky cut bait fishing. The mangrove snapper bite is crazy good now and it is hard to catch anything else because of it. They are feasting on shrimp tipped jig heads thrown up around the mangrove islands and any blown down trees. #1 or 1/0 circle hooks with a #3 split shot works just fine. Because of the snapper anglers might try changing things up for redfish. The reds have been responding to cut ladyfish thrown up around the mangrove islands and oyster bars on high water. The afternoon outgoing tides provided the best action for anglers looking for quality redfish action. You will also pick up snook with this method, but not the normal bite, they just seem to suck in the bait and not the usual grab and go as with live bait. The seatrout bite seems to be better if you can find some cleaner water in the 2-4 ft depth. Shrimp under popping corks was the go-to method. There has been decent action in the passes on shrimp tipped jig heads. Sharks, trout, snapper, catfish, ladyfish, and even a few flounder have been daily catches.
