Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Things appear to be looking up with regards to the weather and the fishing isn't far behind. As the water temps start to increase the fish will be hungry and ready to feed. Start looking for redfish up around the mangrove edges and oyster bars on high water. Shrimp on a jig head or cut ladyfish will work best. Be patient and work the are well before moving on. With the return of bait on the beaches, the snook should be willing to take free lined white baits on 3/0 circle hooks around the floating docks and mangroves. Just remember that our season is still closed until March, so handle them with care and return them to the water. Sea trout are making their way to the grass flats in 2-5 feet of water. Shrimp under a popping cork will work best. Anglers will also pick up plenty of ladyfish for cut bait with this set-up. The nearshore reefs have been teeming with variety including snapper, grunts, sheepshead, grouper, and the occasional cobia. Shrimp tipped jig heads will work fine for most, but cobia can't resist a free lined shrimp thrown their way..
