Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week proved challenging for anglers in and around Estero Bay. With all the wind, the water in the backbay was chocolate milk at best and proved tough for targeting redfish. Those who were patient and fished the afternoon high water had the best luck up and around the mangroves and oyster bars using shrimp tipped jig heads or shrimp under floats. Anglers must take their time when fishing this murky water, as scent is the best way to attract the fish. Cut ladyfish is also a bait of choice when conditions are tough like this. If you could find some cleaner water in 2-5 feet there were some seatrout roaming the grass flats. Shrimp under popping corks was the best method. Anglers will also pick up ladyfish and sharks with this set-up. Fishing blow down along mangroves provided anglers with snapper and sheepshead using shrimp tipped jig heads. If the passes were clam enough silver trout, ladyfish, jacks, sharks, and a few Spanish mackerel were daily catches. Bouncing shrimp tipped jig heads in 7-14 feet of water seemed to be where they were located.
