Estero Bay Report

Capt. Jon Fetter
April 17, 2014
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing was pretty tough this past week for most, but patience and persistence paid off for some anglers. The trout bite is getting better and can be found over 2-5 feet of grassy bottom. Shrimp under popping corks seemed to work best. Anglers will also pick up ladyfish and jacks with this set-up. Those ladyfish should be kept, chunked on 2/0 circle hooks, and thrown up around mangrove islands and oyster bars on high water for redfish. Anglers need to wait out the scent trail of this cut bait before moving on to their next spot. Shallow grass flats near oyster bars also held some reds as they moved either on or off the structure depending on the tides. Shrimp under floats will also work for the reds. The passes were decent for silver trout, ladyfish, jacks, and small sharks. Bouncing shrimp tipped jig heads along the bottom proved best for them.
