Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

There we some really good tides this past week that allowed anglers to stay in their favorite shallow spots a little longer and chase the redfish. They have been hanging out around the oyster bars and mangroves on higher water. Free lining pinfish, shrimp on 2/0 circle hooks with a split shot, or cut bait is the method of choice for anglers. Free lined shrimp on circle hooks under floats also worked well as it allowed the baits to move deeper into the bushes. There are also plenty of mangrove snapper in the same areas and shrimp tipped jig heads will work best. Anglers should remember to downsize their hooks to 1/0 and use just enough shrimp to cover the hook, like winter sheepshead fishing, as the snapper are very good bait stealers as well. Spotted seatrout, whiting, silver trout, and ladyfish have been feeding pretty good on the flats outside the passes in 5-10 feet of water. Dragging shrimp tipped jig heads along the bottom or working Berkley Gulp shrimp under popping corks will work fine. Snook fishing has been pretty tough in and around Estero Bay but persistent anglers can get a few with jerk shads or free lined pinfish around he floating docks or mangrove shorelines near the passes where there is good tidal movement.
