Estero Bay Report

Capt. Jon Fetter
February 25, 2016
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

There have been a few options for anglers in and around Estero Bay this past week. When the weather has allowed nearshore ventures, the sheepshead are biting like crazy and with size. 1/4 oz jig heads or #1 circle hooks with egg sinker for weight are working best. Tip each with just enough shrimp to cover the hook for your best chance. There have also been spanish mackerel out there willing to take free lined shrimp on circle hooks. The seatrout are finally turning on in the shallow flats throughout the bay. Locate shallow grass flats near deeper water and this is where you will find them. Shrimp under popping corks will work best although bouncing shrimp tipped 1/8 oz jig heads will also work. The redfish bite is best on high water around the oyster bars and mangrove islands. Shrimp tipped 1/8 oz jig heads or 2/0 circle hooks will work fine. Be patient and work an area before moving, they are sluggish and might take a while to show themselves.
