Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Things are really starting to change and get into their springtime patterns. The spotted seatrout bite is getting crazy in the passes and along deeper channels in the backbays. Shrimp under popping corks seems to be the best method of locating them and catching them. Anglers will also pick up plenty of ladyfish with this set-up. The passes are also full of nice spanish mackerel and casting shrimp tipped jig heads with a slow retrieve will work best. If artificials are your thing, anglers can also try casting silver spoons or white jerk baits into the mac's. There has also been some really nice catches of pompano in the passes bouncing shrimp tipped jig heads along the bottom. The nearshore reefs are on fire with sheepshead, mackerel, trout, snapper, small grouper, and flounder. Shrimp tipped jig heads will work great for the bottom species, but casting and retrieving will bring on the mac's.
