Estero Bay report Week of May 6th

Capt. Jon Fetter
May 9, 2013
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week the word continues to be snook. There is very good white bait off the beaches and the snook are fighting over it. Fish the mangroves and floating docks on fast moving water and you will catch them. Anglers can also try the oyster bars on high tide for these linesiders. Free line the bait on 2/0 or 3/0 circle hooks through the nose or in front of the tail. The more the bait moves the better chance it will get eaten. There will also be some quality redfish picked up with this method. Fishing the mangrove islands on high tide will produce some good redfish action. Remember to fish the wind driven shorelines of the islands. This is where the bait is pushed and the fish are waiting. If big game is what you are looking for then look no further then off the beaches. Shark action is heating up and cut bait will work best for them.. Anchor in 15-20 feet of water and start chumming. In addition to the sharks there are plenty of tarpon starting to show up in 25-30 feet of water off the beaches. There are not huge numbers but the fish are big and hungry. Free lined threadfin herrings or pinfish will work. Look for rolling fish and get out in front and let them come to you.
