Inshore Tarpon Action In Estero Bay /Ft Myers Area Is Great

Capt. Eric Anderson
May 13, 2014
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's been way too long since my last fishing report and I do apologize. The Tarpon fishing has been occupying most my time day and night. As is usually the case with the inshore back country Tarpon, they tend to arrive in one big bunch and the fishing is incredible the first couple weeks.

There are schools of (30 inch to 45 inch) Tarpon in nearly every back country lagoon and stream from Fort Myers Beach - Estero Bay all the way south to Naples. The best fishing has been from first light until about 9:30 to 10am and then again the last hour before dark. The night fishing has also been great with a mix of Tarpon, Snook, and some real nice trout.

The Tarpon have been focusing on small glass minnows around an inch or two long and are extremely picky about eating anything else. This time of the year fly fishing is far and away the best way to catch these fish. I tie flies that imitate glass minnows and the fish readily hit them day or night.

Contrary to what you may have read elsewhere, there is a great population of inshore back country Tarpon in Estero Bay, and the area around Fort Myers beach. In addition there are always Tarpon in Big Carlos pass this time of the year.

Target Species:

Tarpon Snook

We specialize in offering light tackle and fly fishing charters on the flats and in the back bays of Ft Myers and Fort Myers Beach. Just south of Fort Myers is Estero Bay which has an extensive network of lagoons, mangrove islands, tidal creeks and rivers. Fish with one of the Fort Myers Areas most experienced light tackle and fly fishing guides for Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Trout and more. Be sure to ask us about night fishing, it is great for big Snook.
