Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week was the calm before the storm. The temperatures were still very warm and the fish responded well. The seatrout bite was great over the grass flats in about 4 feet of water hanging around the grass to sand bottom transitions. Shrimp under a popping cork worked best. The redfish bite remained strong around the mangroves on high water. Shrimp on a jig head seemed to work fine. The sheepshead are also starting to move around in the back waters around structure. Shrimp on a #1 circle with a split shot was the ticket to getting some of these tasty fish. Just outside the pass, the Spanish mackerel bite was exceptional. Shrimp on a jig head with a fast retrieve seemed to get them in the feeding mood. Locate the birds and the fish are there. There were also a few nice snook being caught with the jig head shrimp method around the mangroves on moving high water. Things will for sure change this coming week with the on slot of cold blowing weather. Methods will change as the fish will move to deeper water. Remember to work your baits slow and low in the water.
