Capt. Greg Stamper
April 13, 2016
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

As the wind picked up on most of the days this week, we stayed in the backcountry chasing snook, redfish, trout, etc... However we did get a chance to play in some deeper water twice and picked up a bunch of tripletail, some permit, and an assortment of reef species like snappers, grouper, and some nice trout. Most of the backcountry bite was on live baits such as pinfish, pilchards, and of course shrimp. We mostly fished around mangrove shorelines that had some wind block and somewhat cleaner water. We didn't target tarpon this week but did see some fish in the typical areas through Pine Island sound and along the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva. Tarpon should be in full swing as we get closer to the full moon. The water is finally starting to clean up a bit, so sight casting along shorelines and on the open flats is fun again. Looking for laid up snook on sandy bottom mangrove shorelines is a great way to find yourself a pig.
