Tropical Storm Debbie

Capt. Jon Fetter
July 1, 2012
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

When you have a tropical storm going through and there is no fishing happening it gives anglers time to soul search and think about their favorite lure, set-up, or go-to tactic. Well mine is the popping cork. These cork's mimic feeding fish and work great for locating and catching fish. I never leave home without a few rods with this set-up. They come in many shapes and sizes, but I prefer the ones that are concave on the top. This pushes more water and makes more noise. Also choose one that had the titanium shaft through the middle. This will prevent bending and ensure that the cork runs true in the water. Your leader length depends on water depth, keep it just above the bottom structure. Add your favorite jig head and grub, gulp bait, paddle tail, or jerk shad and go to work. Cast out and start your retrieve with a variety of pop's. This variety will offer the best action of your set-up. These corks can be used over grass flats, oyster bars, along mangrove shorelines or even sand flats. So tie a few on and get out there and catch more fish.
