Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Another week of warming water was proof of an epic bite to come. As our water temperatures slowly climbed back toward 80 degrees fishing got better and better. The nearshore bite for cobia continues to be good. Most of the fish my clients caught were sight casted either at anchor while over wrecks or occasionally seen free-swimming in open water while moving to new locations. Permit, bonita, tarpon, spanish mackerel, and tripletail are out there if you pay attention to birds diving on the bait that they are pushing to the surface. The backcountry bite has been fantastic! Snook lead the way as far as line pullers go, but location, timing of the tides, and the right bait has been key. Redfish have been plentiful on good moving water, however most fish this week have been lower slot with only a few tournament winners being landed. Trout are still an easy fish to come by if your fishing the right depths i.e. " 3-4 feet over grassy bottom " and working the old popping cork as it was meant too. Pompano have continued to keep fisherman busy if your near the beaches, but down size you leader to 15#'s and use a small jig tipped with shrimp to entice these delicious drag pullers.
Target Species:

permit, tripletail, redfish, trout, tarpon, snook
