Capt. Greg Stamper

Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Redfish, Snook, And Trout went nuts this week as the first cold front of the Fall found it's way through SWF. These first fronts signal the fish that it's time to eat up and pack on some pounds before winter. Redfish led the charge this week as they schooled up on the flats. Tailing fish were seen in many different parts of our bays and sounds happy to take swim baits and topwater plugs all week long. Paying close attention to large stingrays moving down shorelines proved productive as packs of redfish followed them hoping for a free meal. Snook are also on the move, and have been keen on the schools of pilchards moving through the backcountry areas. Snook have been caught offshore as well, on many of the near shore wrecks and reefs. When fishing offshore using thread fins on a chicken rig produced good results for fish up to 40". Trout also got in the mix heavy this week with lots of quality fish caught on both lures and the old reliable popping cork and shrimp. Trout found in 3-5 feet of water over grassy areas with sandy pot holes seemed best. When you find one trout there's more so also try small swim baits, topwater lures and jigs, as other ways of catching them.
