Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Despite the blowing winds the fishing was extremely good this past week. The redfish were still chewing on shrimp on a jig head thrown up under the mangroves on high tides. They were also caught with shrimp and a float combination around the oyster bars where there was good moving water. The sheepshead are starting to make their move to the backbay areas and are eating shrimp on jig heads around the oyster bars and mangrove islands. The trout bite is on fire with many bigger fish being caught with shrimp under a popping cork over the grass flats. Remember the season is still closed, but the catch and release action is really good. There is some quality bait off the beaches and that is providing a strong snook bite around the floating docks. Free-lined on a 2/0 circle hook will work best. As the temps start to decrease you might have to changeup some of your methods, but most will remain the same. The biggest thing to keep in mind is slow and low. Work your baits slow through the water and low in the water column.
