Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week the fishing was pretty good, with both quality and quantity. The redfish bite continues to be good on high water with shrimp tipped jig heads thrown up around the mangroves. You can even use a float to keep the bait up off the bottom and drift the shorelines. Look for clean moving water, this is your best bet to find the red's. The sea trout bite has been quality over the shallow grass flats. Shrimp under a popping cork will work best for both locating and catching them. Again the key seems to be finding clean water. As the winds pick up this becomes more difficult, but if you can find it there you find the trout. Don't be surprised if you catch a few pompano with this method, they too hang around the grass flats as the tide increases and covers the grass. You will also have some great catch and release ladyfish action with this method as well. There has been some bait showing up on the beaches when the wind is calm, and the snook are feeding. The numbers do seem down a bit, but they are still a ball to catch. Locate good moving water near deeper mangrove islands and floating docks. This is where the snook will be. Free lined on 3/0 circle hooks will work, and remember to get them back to the water fast and try not to stress them out with long fights.
