This week in Estero Bay

Capt. Jon Fetter
December 28, 2012
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

With the cooler, windy conditions this past week the methods for finding and catching fish changed. Slow and low presentations was the ticket to getting fish in the boat. Anglers need to look for deeper water locations and work shrimp tipped jig heads slowly across the bottom. The trout bite was still good over the grass flats in 3-5 feet of water. Shrimp under a popping cork was the go-to method. In the passes there was a decent bite for trout, ladyfish, pompano, mackerel, and small sharks. Bouncing shrimp tipped ¼ oz jig head's was the method. The redfish bite slowed considerably, but anglers should still be able to pick up a few around the mangrove islands on high water. Shrimp on 2/0 circle hooks or under a float will work. Patience is the key to these kind of weather conditions, so work an area well before moving to the next spot.
