This Week in Estero Bay

Capt. Jon Fetter
January 12, 2013
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The backwater trout bite remains really good with most fish caught on shrimp popping cork set-up. Work the grass flats in 3-5 feet of water with deeper water close by. If anglers can find clean water this will help their chances. There has also been a good redfish bite on high water around the mangrove islands. Anglers should work the last part of incoming and first part of outgoing tide to find them. Shrimp on 1/0 circle hooks with #3 split shot will work fine. If sheepshead is what you are after, use the same set-up but switch to a smaller circle hook like #1 and work the mangroves, deeper oyster bars or even the floating docks. Work the deeper passes for snapper and sea trout using shrimp tipped circle jig heads. The nearshore reefs have been producing sheepshead and sea trout using shrimp tipped jig heads. Find your structure and start fishing, if nothing happens in a ½ hour move to another location. The bite has been all or none out there.
