Winter is here

Capt. Greg Stamper
January 27, 2016
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Redfish, sheepshead, and trout became the targets this week as the nearshore waters produced very little all week. Sheepshead have begun there inshore spawn with fish up to 5 lbs available in the skinny waters of estero bay. Fishing jigs with small hooks tipped with shrimp will get a few in the boat. The redfish bite wasn't that good with all the turned up water, however when we found where they were laying up we usually caught 2 or 3 in one spot. Trout were small when we got into them but plentiful along the grass flats and pass edges of Estero bay. January has certainly been a wet one with cold temperatures that have dropped the water temps as low as 58 degrees in some areas so paying attention to water temps of plus or minus 1 or 2 degrees can be the difference between fishing and catching.
