Everglades City, Chokoloskee and Everglades National Park

Capt. Charles Wright
January 16, 2006
Everglades City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing has been very good for snook and redfish here recently. The tarpon however have not been very cooperative and may not be until March!. Speckled trout, in large numbers, are making the group trips a blast with many triple and even quad hookups. Grouper are in the passes in good numbers, and of course, the winter sheep head are here. Things should stay “hot” except for the very cold mornings.

Please congratulate the winner of last quarter's drawing for a 1/2 day Fly/Spin trip…

Peter Esposito (Amhurst, MA)!!

Also, Ray Halgren, of Tampa Bay, was the successful bidder on the ½ day trip auction. Fly Fishing in Salt Water magazine sponsored an auction to benefit the victims of the Guf Hurricanes. Chokoloskee Charters donated the trip and cabin accommodations.

WHAT'S New ...

There is still availability on the mother ship shuttled kayak fishing trips Sat. Jan 21st and Sun Feb 19th. We just added Mon., Feb 27th also. Come join us!

It looks like we are going to do the kayak bonefish trips to the Lower Keys again the last week in April and the first week in May. We have one group together, but if you are still interested, please get with me very soon ... we need to finalize the plans. Also, those of that still want to join the (traditional) dolphin trips in April, the time is now to get on board. Thanks.

Please congratulate the winner of last quarter's drawing for a 1/2 day Fly/Spin trip, Peter Esposito (Amhurst, MA)!! The next drawing will be April 1st, but please remember that you must register for each drawing ... register

I am chomping at the bit for the spring/summer tarpon season. I would suggest planning things very soon so as not to miss out.

The "scheduled" kayak fishing trips aboard the "Yak Attack" are now up on the website for Jan/Feb. If these dates do not work for your group, call us and we will workout a date that does ...schedule

February 18, is the date of the Second Annual EvergladesKayaks.com "Paddle-In". It is a social event to meet other kayakers and kayak anglers, do a little paddling and/or paddle fishing and learn a bit about the area. It should be fun for the whole family. The menu will likely be as simple as last year's with bratwurst, conch chowder and drinks on the beaches. Fish Fry Saturday Night! Pass the word!!

January and February are the times of the “Winter Mix”. The grass flats are abundant with speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, jacks and the occasional cobia. Snook, redfish, black drum, goliath grouper, snapper and the smaller tarpon ... Jan/Feb Fishing Forecast

The life of a fishing guide is not all a bed of roses ... this is "too funny" ... Dennis the Menace
